New hoods fail differently
Because most Miyapur kitchens were fitted in the last ten to fifteen years, the typical hood here is filterless with a brushless DC motor and a touch or gesture panel. Very few have the baffle plates and mechanical switches common in older parts of the city.
That changes the diagnosis. On a BLDC hood the motor is driven by a separate controller board, and in practice the board fails well before the winding does. A dead Miyapur chimney is far more often a board than a motor, which is the difference between a modest repair and an expensive one. We test the board first for that reason.
The duct question in Miyapur
Miyapur is tower country, so most ducts here run upward into a shared shaft rather than out through a wall. The longer the vertical run, the more a seized flap or a choked shaft costs you in suction.
In a mid-rise or high-rise block the duct leaves the kitchen, turns upward and joins a shaft serving the flats above and below. That means a long run and at least one bend before the air gets outside, and the hood has to overcome all of it. A unit rated at 1,400 or 1,600 m³/hr on paper delivers noticeably less through a duct like that.
Two things commonly make it worse. The non-return flap seizes with grease and no longer opens fully, so the hood pushes against a near-closed plate. And in older blocks the shaft accumulates grease from every kitchen on the line, narrowing the path for everyone. Neither is solved by cleaning the filters or replacing the motor, which is why we check the flap and the first stretch of duct before quoting any part.
Newer Miyapur flats are also built tight, so a closed kitchen door leaves the hood with no replacement air. Opening a window often improves the pull more than anything we could fit.

Miyapur chimney service questions
My Miyapur chimney is completely dead. Do I need a new motor?
Probably not. Most hoods here are BLDC models, where the motor runs off a separate controller board, and that board fails far more often than the winding. We test the driver first. It frequently turns a quoted motor replacement into a much smaller board repair.
Why does my new chimney pull less than the rating suggests?
Because the rating is measured without a duct. In a Miyapur tower the air travels up a long shaft with at least one bend, and that resistance is real. A 1,600 m³/hr hood simply does not deliver 1,600 through that path. We check the flap and duct first, since that is usually where the loss is.
Do you need society permission to work here?
