Kitchen chimney service is any work that keeps a chimney pulling smoke and oil out of the kitchen: cleaning grease from the filters and hood, opening the unit to clean the blower and fan, fixing motor, switch and light faults, and fitting or removing the chimney itself.
Chimney cleaning and deep cleaning
Basic cleaning for filters, oil collector and hood surfaces. Deep cleaning adds the blower, fan and inner hood, where the design allows.

Chimney servicing and maintenance
Chimney servicing is a routine visit, done before problems appear, that cleans the filters and hood and checks the parts that wear: the motor, fan, switches, lights and the duct connection. It is the same work as a cleaning visit plus a functional check.
What a servicing visit usually covers
- Filters and oil collector cleaned, hood surfaces degreased
- Suction checked at each speed
- Motor and fan listened to for humming, grinding or wobble
- Buttons or touch panel, lights and the auto-clean function (if fitted) tested
- Duct connection and the outside opening looked at for blockages or a loose joint
- Anything worn or failing explained to you, with the cost, before any repair
Exactly what a visit includes depends on your chimney model, and we confirm it with you before starting.
How often to service a kitchen chimney
These intervals are a general guide for Indian home cooking. Your chimney’s manual takes priority if it gives its own.
| How you cook | Wash filters yourself | Professional cleaning or servicing |
|---|---|---|
| Daily cooking with frying and tadka | Every 2 to 3 weeks | About every 3 to 6 months |
| Daily cooking, little frying | Every 3 to 4 weeks | About every 6 months |
| Light or occasional cooking | Every month or two | About once a year |
Looking after the chimney between visits
- Switch the chimney on a few minutes before you start cooking and leave it running for a few minutes after, so fumes clear the duct.
- Use a higher speed for frying and tadka; low speed lets oil settle inside the hood.
- Empty the oil collector cup when it is half full.
- Wipe the outer panel with a mild detergent and a soft cloth; avoid steel wool, which scratches the finish.
- Do not open the motor housing or the control panel yourself.
Can you clean chimney filters at home?
Yes, most baffle and mesh filters can be washed at home. Switch the chimney off at the socket, take the filters out, and soak them in hot water with dishwashing liquid or a little baking soda for 20 to 30 minutes. Scrub baffle filters with a soft brush; treat mesh filters gently so the layers do not tear. Rinse, let them dry fully and refit. Charcoal filters in ductless chimneys are not washable; they are replaced. If the filters are clean and suction is still weak, the problem is further in: see why chimney suction gets weak.
Chimney service questions
What is included in chimney servicing?
Servicing usually covers cleaning the filters, oil collector and hood, then checking suction at each speed, the motor and fan, the buttons or touch panel, the lights and the duct connection. We confirm what your visit includes before starting.
Is chimney servicing the same as chimney cleaning?
Not quite. Cleaning removes grease; servicing is cleaning plus a functional check of the motor, controls, lights and duct, so worn parts are spotted before they fail.
When should I call for a repair instead of a cleaning?
Call for a repair check if the chimney will not switch on, the buttons or lights are dead, the motor grinds or hums loudly, or suction stays weak after the filters have been cleaned.
Can the hob or gas stove be serviced in the same visit?
You can book them together. Mention every appliance when you book so the visit is planned for all of them.
Do I need to buy anything before the technician comes?
No. Keep the hob area clear, make sure the chimney’s socket is reachable, and have the brand and model handy if you know it.
