Very high suction needs a matching duct
The Prestige Edge 900 is listed at 2,038 m³/hr, far above the 1,200 to 1,500 typical of this market. On paper that is a strong hood. In practice the duct decides whether you ever see that figure.
A high-airflow hood pushed through a long, narrow or sharply bent duct becomes loud without becoming effective, and the extra air it moves is simply fighting the pipe. When we are called to a noisy Edge, the duct is usually the problem rather than the chimney, and shortening or re-routing it does more than any part we could fit.
Common Prestige chimney problems
These are the Prestige complaints we attend to most often in Hyderabad. Because the motor is often covered for life, the faults that reach us are mostly cleaning, sensors, boards and ducting.
| Symptom | Most likely cause | What we do | Typical time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suction weak although the fan sounds fast | Inner cone and impeller coated with hardened oil the auto-clean cycle never reaches | Strip the hood, degrease the cone and impeller, flush the oil channel and duct mouth | 75–110 min |
| Very loud at high speed but little pull | Duct too long, too narrow or too sharply bent for a high-airflow hood | Measure and inspect the duct run, then shorten or re-route it and fit a proper flap | 90–180 min |
| Heat auto-clean runs but the hood is still oily | Heating element open circuit, or the cycle is run far too rarely for daily cooking | Test and replace the element, degrease by hand, set a realistic interval | 60–120 min |
| Oil dripping onto the hob | Oil collector full or misseated, or the channel feeding it is choked | Clear and reseat the collector, flush the channel, renew a hardened gasket | 45–75 min |
| Hood powers on with nobody near it | Motion sensor reading a plume of steam, or a lens filmed with cooking oil | Clean and re-calibrate the sensor lens, or replace the module | 40–70 min |
| Touch panel or digital display dead | Oil ingress behind the glass onto the control board | Clean and dry the panel and board, repair the track, or replace the panel | 45–90 min |
| Rattling or vibration at high speed | Impeller unbalanced by uneven oil build-up, or a loose canopy fixing | Clean and re-balance the impeller, re-seat and tighten the canopy | 60–120 min |
Times are for one technician at your home and exclude waiting for a spare part that has to be ordered.
Prestige chimney models we service
All Prestige chimneys, current and discontinued, including the models below. Figures are as published by Prestige and its Indian retailers; your unit’s exact specification is on the rating sticker inside the hood.
| Model | Width | Suction | Filter and cleaning | Controls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prestige Edge 900 | 90 cm | 2038 m³/hr | Filterless, heat auto-clean | Motion sensor, touch, digital display, 3 speeds |
| Prestige Provo Plus | 60 cm | 1400 m³/hr | Auto clean | Motion sensor |
Prestige sells a wide chimney range through its own stores and online, and most hoods we see in Hyderabad are earlier models with mesh or baffle filters. Those are still serviced. Call us with the number on your sticker.
Prestige terms, and what they mean for a repair
Prestige names its hoods rather than coding them, so the feature list on the box matters more than the name. These are the terms Prestige uses on its own listings and what each one implies when something goes wrong.
| Term | What it means | Why it matters for a repair |
|---|---|---|
| Efficient Heat Auto-Clean | Prestige’s named cleaning system: the hood melts accumulated grease and directs it into the oil collector | The element can fail on its own while the fan still runs perfectly normally |
| Revolutionary Motion Sensor | Prestige’s name for its gesture control: wave a hand to power on, change speed or switch the lights | A hood powering on by itself is almost always this sensor reading steam |
| Filterless | No filter plates; oil runs down the inner cone to a collector | The cone must be stripped by hand. Running the auto-clean cycle is not a substitute |
| Oil collector | The removable tray that catches melted grease | A tray that no longer seats flush is a common cause of a leaking hood |
| Lifetime motor warranty | Cover on the motor for the life of the product, listed on models such as the Edge 900 | If the motor has failed, claim it from Prestige before paying anyone to replace it |
| CMH or m³/hr | Air the hood moves per hour at full speed | Above about 1,500 m³/hr the duct, not the hood, usually limits what you actually get |
Where to find it: on the rating sticker inside the hood, usually under the canopy or at the back near the duct outlet. A photo of that sticker tells us which part to bring.
Prestige’s warranty, and why you should check it first
Prestige lists two years on the product and a lifetime motor warranty on the Edge 900, onsite, covering manufacturing defects and excluding physical damage. A lifetime motor warranty is unusual even by the generous standards of this market.
That changes our advice. With most brands we establish whether the fault is the motor so we can quote accurately. With Prestige we establish it so we can tell you not to pay us. If the motor has failed, raise a Prestige service request — replacing it yourself would mean giving up cover you already hold.
Cover differs by model and by the dealer you bought from, so check your own invoice before assuming these figures apply to your hood.
What we handle instead
Everything outside that motor claim: deep cleaning, oil and collector faults, heating elements, motion sensors and touch panels, blocked or badly routed ducts, lamps, installation and re-siting, physical damage, and any hood past its product cover.
Ducting is worth a separate mention on Prestige hoods. The high-airflow models only deliver their rated suction through a short, wide, straight duct, and correcting a bad duct run is often the single most useful thing we do on these.

How a Prestige service visit works
- You send the symptom. Call or send a short video of the chimney running. Sound and smoke tell us more than a description, and it lets us carry the right spare on the first visit.
- We check your warranty first. If the fault looks like the motor and your model carries lifetime motor cover, we tell you to claim it from Prestige instead of booking us.
- On-site diagnosis. The technician opens the hood, checks suction at the canopy, measures the duct run, inspects the flap, then shows you the fault before quoting.
- Repair or deep clean. Work is done at your home. Floors and the hob are covered, oil-soaked parts are degreased in a tray, and old parts are handed to you.
- Test and hand over. We run every speed, check noise and suction with the kitchen door shut, clean the work area and give you a dated bill.

Prestige chimney questions
Does Prestige really give a lifetime motor warranty?
On the Edge 900, Prestige lists a lifetime motor warranty alongside two years on the product, onsite, covering manufacturing defects and excluding physical damage. Cover varies by model, so check your own invoice. If your motor has failed and you hold that cover, claim it from Prestige — paying an independent technician to replace it would mean giving up something you already have.
My Prestige chimney is loud but does not pull well. Why?
Usually the duct rather than the chimney. The Edge 900 is rated at 2,038 m³/hr, well above the 1,200 to 1,500 typical here, and a hood that powerful pushed through a long, narrow or sharply bent pipe gets loud without getting effective. We measure the duct run before touching the hood, and shortening or re-routing it usually fixes more than any part we could fit.
Does heat auto-clean mean I never need a deep clean?
No. Prestige describes it as melting accumulated grease and directing it into the oil collector, and that is what it does — it moves grease. It does not clean the inner cone, the impeller blades, the motor housing or the duct, and those are the surfaces that cost you suction. A hand strip-down every four to six months keeps the pull where it started.
Why does my Prestige chimney switch on by itself?
Models with Prestige’s Revolutionary Motion Sensor respond to a hand passing in front of them, and steam rising off a pan reads the same way, as does a lens filmed with cooking oil. Cleaning and re-calibrating the lens fixes most cases; a failed module is a quick swap.
Do you repair older Prestige chimneys?
Yes. Most Prestige hoods we see in Hyderabad are earlier models with mesh or baffle filters and a conventional motor. They are simpler to repair than the current filterless range, parts are still available, and a well-maintained one will outlast a neglected new hood.
Is Prestige an Indian brand?
Yes. Prestige products are made by TTK Prestige, incorporated on 22 October 1955 in Madras, now Chennai, as part of the TTK Group. It began manufacturing pressure cookers in 1959 with technical collaboration from the Prestige Group in the United Kingdom, and is best known for cookware and kitchen appliances.
Do you fit genuine Prestige spare parts?
We use genuine parts where they are available to independent dealers, and OEM-grade equivalents where Prestige supplies only through its own network. We tell you which one is going in before we fit it and hand you the old part afterwards.
Which areas do you cover for Prestige service?
Hyderabad and Secunderabad, including Gachibowli, Kondapur, Madhapur, Kukatpally, Miyapur, Nizampet, Bachupally, Manikonda, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Mehdipatnam, Attapur, Uppal and LB Nagar. The full list is on the service areas page.
