Powder coating needs gentler cleaning
Several Pigeon hoods, the Meadow among them, use a powder-coated steel body rather than stainless or glass. Powder coat looks good and costs less, but it does not tolerate the strong alkaline degreasers used on stainless housings.
Aggressive cleaning strips the coating and the steel beneath then rusts, particularly around the oil channel where grease sits longest. So on a powder-coated Pigeon we clean with milder chemicals and more mechanical work. It takes a little longer, and it is why a hood cleaned carelessly once often looks worse afterwards than before.
Common Pigeon chimney problems
These are the Pigeon complaints we attend to most often in Hyderabad. Because the hoods are mechanically simple, most have cheap fixes.
| Symptom | Most likely cause | What we do | Typical time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suction dropped | Baffle plates and the channel behind them clogged with hardened oil | Remove and degrease the plates, flush the channel, clear the duct mouth | 60–90 min |
| One speed not working | A failed push button or rocker switch rather than a control board | Test and replace the switch, which is an inexpensive part | 30–60 min |
| Chimney hums but the fan does not turn | Failed run capacitor or a seized bearing | Test and swap the capacitor first; replace the bearing or motor if needed | 60–150 min |
| Oil dripping onto the hob | Collector full or misseated, or the channel behind the plates is choked | Clear and reseat the collector, flush the channel, renew a hardened gasket | 45–75 min |
| Rust or bubbling on the body | Powder coating stripped by harsh cleaning, with oil then sitting on bare steel | Clean back, treat the surface and advise on repainting or panel replacement | 60–120 min |
| Smoke escaping at the sides | A 1,000 m³/hr hood in a kitchen that needs more, or a long duct run | Check duct and air replacement, advise honestly whether the hood is undersized | 60–120 min |
| Lamp not working | Failed lamp or a corroded lamp holder | Replace the lamp and holder, and check the wiring for oil ingress | 20–45 min |
Times are for one technician at your home and exclude waiting for a spare part that has to be ordered.
Pigeon chimney models we service
Pigeon chimneys sold in India, including the models below. Pigeon publishes specifications by size rather than per model, so the figures below are the stated 60 cm values and your unit may differ. Check the rating sticker inside the hood.
| Model | Width | Suction | Filter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pigeon by Stovekraft Nebula 60 | 60 cm | About 1000 m³/hr | Baffle filter |
| Pigeon Sterling DLX 60 | 60 cm | About 1000 m³/hr | Baffle filter |
| Pigeon Black Pearl 60 | 60 cm | About 1000 m³/hr | Baffle filter |
| Pigeon Meadow 60 | 60 cm | About 1000 m³/hr | Baffle filter, powder-coated body |
| Pigeon 90 cm range | 90 cm | Per Pigeon listing | Per Pigeon listing |
Pigeon lists the 60 cm chimney generally at 1000 m³/hr with a baffle filter and dimensions of 60 by 48 by 55 cm, rather than publishing a separate sheet per model. We have written “about” and “per Pigeon listing” rather than present that general figure as a confirmed per-model specification. Stove Kraft has also launched newer chimney ranges, and those are serviced too.
Pigeon terms, and what they mean for a repair
Pigeon names its hoods rather than coding them, so the body material and filter type matter more than the name. These are the terms used on Pigeon listings and what each one implies when something goes wrong.
| Term | What it means | Why it matters for a repair |
|---|---|---|
| Baffle filter | Stainless plates that trap oil, used across the Pigeon range | Plates can be washed by hand or in a dishwasher and are rarely replaced, only cleaned |
| Powder coated | A painted steel body rather than stainless or glass, as on the Meadow | Harsh degreasers strip the coating and the steel then rusts, so cleaning must be gentler |
| DLX | A trim-level marker on the Sterling. Pigeon does not state what it covers | Quote the full name so we match the glass and trim correctly |
| By Stovekraft | Pigeon is Stove Kraft’s appliance brand; some hoods carry both names | Confirms the parts source when ordering components |
| 60 / 90 | Width of the hood in centimetres | Decides the canopy, glass and bracket we carry |
| Push button control | Mechanical switches rather than a touch panel | A dead speed is almost always the switch, which is a cheap and quick replacement |
Where to find it: on the rating sticker inside the hood, usually under the canopy once the baffle plates are unclipped.
Pigeon’s warranty, and what to check
Pigeon’s 60 cm chimneys are commonly listed with one year on the product and five years on the motor. Pigeon publishes specifications by size rather than per model, so your own invoice is the reliable source rather than any figure quoted online, including here.
If the motor has failed and you are inside five years, claim it from Pigeon. We will say so on the phone rather than quote you for a motor you can get free.
Because these hoods are inexpensive, it is also worth asking whether a repair is economic. We will tell you plainly when it is not.
What we handle
Deep cleaning, baffle plate work, clips and springs, switches, capacitors, bearings, oil collectors and channels, lamps and holders, powder-coat and rust treatment, ducting, installation and re-siting, and any hood past its cover.
Parts are the usual constraint on budget hoods. Universal components — motors, capacitors, switches, lamps, baffle plates — we fit without difficulty. Model-specific glass and canopy trims can be hard to source, and we will tell you at the quoting stage if a part cannot be obtained at all.

How a Pigeon service visit works
- You send the symptom. Call or send a short video of the chimney running. Sound and smoke tell us more than a description, and it lets us carry the right spare on the first visit.
- We tell you what it is likely to be. You get a probable cause and a price range before anyone travels, along with the visit charge. Tell us whether the body is powder coated, stainless or glass, because that changes how we clean it.
- On-site diagnosis. The technician opens the hood, checks suction at the canopy, inspects the oil channel, duct and flap, then shows you the fault before quoting.
- Repair or deep clean. Work is done at your home. Floors and the hob are covered, oil-soaked parts are degreased in a tray, and old parts are handed to you.
- Test and hand over. We run every speed, check noise and suction with the kitchen door shut, clean the work area and give you a dated bill.
Full detail on charges is on the service charges page, and the areas we cover are listed under service areas.
Pigeon chimney questions
Is a Pigeon chimney worth repairing?
Usually yes, because the faults are cheap. Pigeon hoods are baffle-filter models with a conventional motor and mechanical switches, so a dead speed is normally a switch and a humming motor is normally a capacitor. Both are inexpensive. Where a hood needs a new motor plus a panel, we will tell you plainly that replacement may cost less than the repair.
Why has my Pigeon chimney started rusting?
Almost always because the powder coating has been stripped by harsh cleaning. Several Pigeon hoods use a powder-coated steel body rather than stainless, and the strong alkaline degreasers that are fine on stainless will take the coating off. Once bare steel is exposed, oil sitting on it rusts quickly, usually around the oil channel. We clean powder-coated hoods with milder chemicals and more mechanical work for exactly this reason.
How long is the Pigeon chimney warranty?
Pigeon’s 60 cm chimneys are commonly listed with one year on the product and five years on the motor. Pigeon publishes specifications by size rather than per model, so read your own invoice rather than relying on a figure quoted online. If the motor has failed inside five years, claim it from Pigeon.
Can I wash the baffle filters myself?
Yes, and you should. The stainless plates unclip and can be washed by hand or in a dishwasher, and doing that every few weeks keeps the suction up. What home washing does not reach is the channel behind the plates, the impeller and the duct mouth, which is what a deep clean is for.
My Pigeon never clears the smoke properly. Is it faulty?
Possibly not. The 60 cm range is around 1,000 m³/hr, and in a large kitchen with heavy frying that is simply not enough air however clean the hood is. We check the duct and the air replacement first, then tell you honestly whether the hood is undersized rather than sell you parts that will not help.
What is the difference between Pigeon and Stovekraft?
Pigeon is Stove Kraft’s appliance brand, and some hoods are badged “Pigeon by Stovekraft”. It is the same product line. For a repair it only matters when ordering parts, where quoting both names helps identify the correct component.
Are Pigeon spare parts available?
Partly. Universal parts such as motors, capacitors, switches, lamps and baffle plates we source and fit without difficulty. Model-specific parts such as glass panels and canopy trims are harder on budget ranges. We tell you at the quoting stage whether a part can be obtained at all, rather than starting a job we cannot finish.
Which areas do you cover?
Hyderabad and Secunderabad, including Gachibowli, Kondapur, Madhapur, Kukatpally, Miyapur, Nizampet, Bachupally, Manikonda, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Mehdipatnam, Attapur, Uppal and LB Nagar. The full list is on the service areas page.
