Gas hob repair fixes built-in hobs whose burners will not ignite, will not stay lit, burn weak or yellow, or leak gas. The usual causes are a dirty or cracked ignition electrode, a weak ignition module, a faulty flame failure device, blocked burner ports or a worn gas valve, and most can be repaired at home in one visit.

Hob faults and their usual causes

What you noticeCommon causes
No spark from any burnerDead battery (battery-ignition hobs), failed ignition module, no power at the socket, damaged wiring
Sparks on one burner but it does not lightDirty or wet electrode, blocked ports, burner cap not seated, partly blocked nozzle
Lights, but goes off when you release the knobFlame failure device not heating enough: dirty or misplaced thermocouple, weak magnet valve, knob released too soon
Keeps clicking after the burner is litMoisture or spill on the ignition switch, faulty switch or module
Weak, yellow or uneven flameDirty burner and ports, wrong nozzle for LPG or PNG, air mixture out of adjustment
Knob stiff or looseDry or worn valve spindle, broken knob
Smell of gasLoose joint, worn hose or leaking valve; treat as urgent

Most hobs with a flame failure device need the knob held in for a few seconds after lighting. If the burner stays lit when you hold it longer, the device may just need cleaning.

How a hob repair visit works

  1. Share the detailsBrand, model, number of burners, LPG or piped gas, and a short video of the fault.
  2. Isolate gas and powerThe gas supply is closed and the hob’s ignition power is switched off before any part is opened.
  3. DiagnoseBurners, electrodes, the ignition module, the flame failure devices and the valves are tested to find the cause, and you get the fault and charge before work.
  4. RepairWith your go-ahead, ports and nozzles are cleaned, electrodes and thermocouples cleaned or replaced, and faulty modules, valves or knobs repaired or replaced where parts are available.
  5. Leak testGas is turned back on and every joint is soap-tested for leaks.
  6. Burner-by-burner testEach burner is lit at low and high to check ignition, a steady blue flame and that it stays lit, and we show you.

Hob, gas stove or cooking range?

A hob is built into the countertop and connected from below, which makes access and the countertop cut-out part of every job. A gas stove sits on top of the counter. A cooking range combines burners with an oven.

For freestanding stoves see gas stove repair; for ranges see cooking range service; for a new or replacement hob see hob installation.

What decides the charge

  • The fault and the parts needed, such as an electrode, thermocouple, ignition module, valve or knob
  • Number of burners
  • Whether the hob must be lifted out of the countertop to reach the part
  • Whether a part must be sourced for your model

We confirm the charge before repairing. We are an independent service, not a brand’s authorised service centre, so a hob still under the maker’s warranty is usually best taken to the brand first. See how our charges work.

Look after your hob

  • Clean spills once the glass is cool, so they do not run into the ignition switches.
  • Dry burners and caps fully before putting them back.
  • Do not use the glass as a resting place for hot or heavy vessels away from the burners.
  • Replace the battery on battery-ignition hobs when the spark weakens.
  • Keep the cabinet under the hob ventilated and free of stored items touching the gas line.

Before the visit

  • Have the model number ready; it is usually on a label under the hob or in the manual
  • Clear the countertop and the cabinet below the hob
  • Keep the gas supply and ignition power switch reachable

Smell of gas? Do not light the hob or switch anything electrical on or off. Close the gas supply, open the windows and leave the kitchen. For LPG in India call 1906; for piped gas call your supplier’s emergency line.

Gas hob repair: questions

Why does my gas hob burner go off when I release the knob?

Hobs with a flame failure device cut the gas unless a small thermocouple near the flame is hot. If the burner goes off when released, try holding the knob a little longer. If it still goes off, the thermocouple may be dirty or out of place, or the valve may be weak, which a technician can clean or replace.

Why is my hob not sparking?

If no burner sparks, check the battery on battery-ignition hobs and the power socket on mains-ignition hobs. If both are fine, the ignition module or wiring is usually at fault. If only one burner fails to spark, its electrode or switch is the likely cause.

Do you repair built-in hobs at home in Hyderabad?

Yes. We repair built-in gas hobs at your home across Hyderabad and Secunderabad, including ignition, flame failure devices, burners, valves and knobs, and leak-test after the repair.

Does the hob need to be removed from the countertop?

Many repairs are done from the top by removing the burners and glass fittings. Some faults, such as a valve or module under the glass, need the hob lifted out. We tell you before doing it.

Can a cracked hob glass be replaced?

Sometimes. It depends on a matching glass panel being available for your model. Do not use a hob with cracked glass until it is checked, as heat can spread the crack.

Which hob brands do you repair?

Most brands used in Hyderabad, including Elica, Faber, Hindware, Kaff, Glen, Sunflame, Bosch, Hafele and Carysil. We are an independent service, not an authorised service centre for any brand.

Can my hob be converted from LPG to piped gas?

Many hobs can be converted by changing the nozzles and adjusting the flame. It depends on the model and on matching nozzles being available. Send the brand and model and we confirm.

What should I do if my hob smells of gas?

Do not light it or touch any switch. Close the gas supply, open the windows and leave the kitchen. For LPG in India call 1906, or your piped gas supplier’s emergency line. Book a repair once the area is safe.
