Dust from the main road, grease from the kitchen
Attapur sits on a busy arterial road, and kitchens on the lower floors of blocks facing it take in a steady amount of road dust along with cooking grease. The two together make a harder deposit than grease alone — it sets rather than stays tacky, and a quick wipe of the baffle plates stops working much sooner.
Practically, that means a hood here often needs its filters taken out and degreased properly rather than surface-cleaned, and the canopy interior and blower housing need attention too. If your filters look clean but the suction has dropped, the deposit has usually moved past them into the blower.
The duct question in Attapur
Most Attapur flats vent into a shared shaft. The newer blocks have proper ducting; some of the older ones have short runs straight out through an external wall.
In the newer gated blocks the arrangement is the familiar one: the duct leaves the hood, turns up, and joins a shaft shared with the flats above. Long run, at least one bend, shared grease, and a non-return flap that is worth checking before anything else is discussed.
Some of the older buildings behind the main road vent straight out through an external wall instead, which is a far better arrangement for airflow. The catch on a road-facing wall is the outside termination: mesh or a cowl there collects road grit as well as grease and can silt up noticeably within a year or two. It is an easy thing to clear once someone looks at it.
Where a flat has been let for several years, we also check whether the duct was ever properly connected. In fast-turnover rentals we not infrequently find a flexible duct that has worked loose at the canopy, which vents the kitchen straight into the cabinet void.

That usually means the deposit has moved past the filters into the blower housing and canopy interior. Road dust mixed with grease, which is common on the main road in Attapur, sets harder than grease alone and gets drawn further in. It is, and we see it more often in flats that have changed tenants several times. A flexible duct that works loose at the canopy vents the kitchen into the cabinet void instead of the shaft, which is why the smoke never clears. Reconnecting and securing it properly is a small job.
